Motion
Crafting a warm, gentle animation to introduce a brilliant alliance exploring how music supports parental wellbeing.
The Project
The Music and Parental Wellbeing Alliance led by Professor Rosie Perkins at the Royal College of Music and Dr Katie Rose Sanfilippo at City St George’s, University of London, brings together researchers, practitioners, artists, and parents to look at how music can support parental wellbeing.
The brief for this short explainer video was all about setting the right tone. It needed to introduce the Alliance in a way that felt warm, accessible, and welcoming, steering well clear of anything too stuffy or academic.
The Team
This was another cracking collaboration. Fat Panda sorted the script, creative direction, and voiceover. The brilliant Kyle Prior provided the illustrations, and we had a lovely original score created by Ethan Lieber, an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music.
The Work
I came on board to handle the animation and motion design. Taking the animatic and Kyle’s visual assets, my job was to get everything moving and bring the story to life. The work involved:
Finding the right feel: Creating a warm, gentle motion style that perfectly matched the sensitive and welcoming nature of the subject.
Bringing assets to life: Taking the illustrated assets from the initial storyboard and giving them character and movement.
Finding the rhythm: Pacing the animation nicely around the voiceover and Ethan's music so it all flowed naturally.
Wrapping it up: Incorporating the final branded elements and credit screens to polish it all off.
The Outcome
The main goal was to make sure the final video felt like a friendly, open invitation rather than a formal lecture, and the gentle visual style really helped land that feeling.
The response from Rosie and Katie Rose was lovely. They were absolutely thrilled with the final piece, excited to get it out there, and hugely appreciative of the work.
